Privacy Policy

This is what Narrative knows about you, where it goes, and how to get rid of it. There is less of it than you might expect, mostly because we never built the parts that would collect more.
What we hold
Your email address, which is your whole identity here — there is no name field, no profile, and no password.
Everything you write and everything the writer produces, plus the editable memory kept alongside each story.
A Stripe customer id, which plan you are on, whether it is paying, and how many turns you have used this month.
For each session: a hashed token, when it was made, when it expires, and the browser that asked for it. Sign-in links are held the same way — hashed, single use, dead after fifteen minutes.
What we do not hold
Your card. Stripe takes the payment on its own pages and hands back an id; the number never reaches our server.
A password, because there isn't one.
Advertising profiles and session recordings. We do not run advertising pixels or record your interactions inside a story.
Website performance
Cloudflare delivers and protects this site. Its privacy-first Web Analytics beacon collects page-view and page-loading measurements, without advertising cookies. It is used to understand website performance, not to record your story text or replay your session.
Cookies
Narrative uses narrative_session for sign-in. It carries your session token, lasts sixty days, cannot be read by JavaScript, and is deleted when you sign out. Cloudflare may also use technical cookies to protect the site. We do not use advertising cookies.
Who else sees your writing
Writing sends relevant story text, current Story Memory and your instruction to Anthropic's Claude. The same writer produces the passage and updates its memory; there is no separate passage-review model. Claude runs directly through Anthropic, or the same Claude model through Google Antigravity when the direct route is unavailable.
Helper and Draft Studio use OpenAI. They receive your request and the story details needed to answer it or prepare a story.
Narration sends that passage's text to ElevenLabs, which returns the audio. It happens only when you ask for it.
Sign-in links and account mail go through Postmark, which sees your email address and the contents of the message.
Stripe sees your email address and your payment details.
Cloudflare carries website and API traffic between your device and our server, including requests to open or update a story.
Each service named above handles what it receives under its own privacy policy. We would be guessing if we told you what any of them does with it afterwards, so we are not going to. What we can tell you is exactly what leaves here and who receives it, which is the list above. We do not send your writing anywhere else, and we do not use it to train anything ourselves.
Where it lives
Story data lives on our server in the United States, with backups on our own machines in the United States. Each account has its own story directory. Accounts and sessions live in a separate database on the server.
How long we keep it
Stories stay until the account is deleted. Sign-in links expire after fifteen minutes and sessions after sixty days, used or not, and expired ones are swept off the machine every hour. Billing records we keep for as long as tax and accounting require, which outlasts the account.
Getting rid of it
Write to [email protected] from the address the account uses. We delete the account, its sessions, and its whole story directory, and we cancel the subscription. There is no undo and we keep no copy. Stripe holds its own record of payments taken, which is not ours to erase.
There is no button for this yet. The email is the way, and a person answers it.
People under 18
Nobody under 18 may hold an account, and we do not knowingly keep anything about a child. If you believe we have, write and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it. If we ever begin doing something with your data that is not already described here, we will email you before we begin.
